Tuesday Triple Play

In Poetry on April 29, 2014 at 9:35 am

I enjoy hard rock/heavy metal. I enjoy horror movies. I enjoy hiking.

Tuesdays I am going to attempt to write about a meaningful song, movie, and trail. I am not starting with my favorites, but rather going with those I feel are underrated or under appreciated.

The song this week is W.A.S.P.’s Hold on to My Heart from The Crimson Idol album, which is a fun album that tells a story as well. This song speaks to me in big bold letters. You can give everything and have a burning heart and suffer alone. The lyrics bellow tell the tale of of heartache and loneliness. Jonathan Steel’s demise is something I can’t relate to, but I know pain.

There’s a flame, flame in my heart
And there’s no rain, can put it out
And there’s a flame, it’s burning in my heart
And there’s no rain, ooh can put it out
So just hold me, hold me, hold me

Take away the pain, inside my soul
And I’m afraid, so all alone
Take away the pain, that’s burning in my soul
Cause I’m afraid that I’ll be all alone
So just hold me, hold me, hold me

Hold on to my heart, to my heart, to me
Hold on to my heart, to my heart, to me
And oh no, don’t let me go cause all I am
You hold in your hands, and hold me
And I’ll make it through the night
And I’ll be alright, hold on, hold on to my heart

My horror movie this week is Phantasm II. This sequel isn’t as good as the original, but does have some nice death scenes. This is typical of 80s sequels where the story isn’t as good as the original, but the pacing and kills are ramped up. This movies gets going with Mike getting released from a mental hospital after doctors convince him that the events of the first movie were just his imagination. Mike reunites with Reggie and they intend to go after the Tall Man. What is great about this movie is the quick pacing, the chainsaw dual, and as always the spheres.

My hiking spot this week is Hidden Valley in Ogden, Utah. This trail has one of the steepest inclines I have encountered. It is a challenge, but very beautiful and rewarding at the end.
